Sydian: The Arch Mage's Lyre

Right. Heres the first of three weapons designs I have devised over the course of the few months. I thought or maybe making off with a medieval fantasy theme for this batch, and Sydian is one meant for someone like a magical swordsperson character.

Recently, Ive been thinking of a very cool character design: A good aligned lich (named Dagorlas as mentioned in the drawing) who was once a powerful battle mage. I needed something of a primary weapon for him that is able to show his ability to be able to handle both combat magic and close quarters combat. Using D&D ideas, I decided with using a magical sword for such a purpose.

Sydian's design has no specific form of reference or outside influence that I can think of straight off the top of my head, except possibly Xiang Hua's Soulcalibur version of her weapon. The little long shapes in between the two edges are actually hollow, and its purpose for being there is make the weapon look light weight. I dont know where I thought out the hilt and pummel designs but Id thought they would give the weapon a not so extravagant kind of magical feel.... This shows that it does not really take a flashy weapon to weave a bit of destruction.

I was thinking of making the material used to be a rare form of ore found in mountainous regions and forged by way of smith and enchanter, as Dagorlas used to live in a village on top of a plateau. The jewel in the hilt channels magical energy so that it can be dispersed from the sword as bolts, rays, beams or auras. Furthermore, I decided on the name since the weapon can be seen as a sort of tool to reinforce its owner's deadly wrath by way of sight and sound.
